Descripción
Summary:This paper examines and contextualizes the academic background of Alfonso Carvajal Escobar, with an emphasis on his time at the Section d'Architecture of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Engineer and architect, constructor and teacher, little known until today in Colombian historiography that has studied the architecture of the 20th century, he was one of only two Colombians who graduated from the prestigious French institute. Based on a direct review of primary sources, and in the light of recent French historiography that deals in depth with multiple aspects of the social and cultural history of teaching architecture, this study seeks to enrich new perspectives (in the case of Colombia and Latin America), fundamentally related to the history of teaching architecture and its processes of internationalization and transfer during the first half of the 20th century.
