| Izvleček: | This paper is about a study that inquired into the role that some prominent projects of public space in Bogota have played in the strengthening of democracy for being elements of social integration and facilitators of space appropriation by the common citizen. The exploration is on the following four public space projects in the city: the lineal park El Virrey; Tercer Milenio Park; Transmilenio; and La Felicidad: Park City; all considered icons of the recent city administrations. The study was done through the fast ethnography strategy, using observation records, key informant interviews, and a questionnaire; such techniques helped to document the experience of users in these public spaces. The results show that the projects under study have contributed to social cohesion and that there are different types of appropriation mechanisms of these places by the citizens. A discussion on the implications of society democratization through the creation and maintanance of public spaces in the city is given. |
