Through the history the power of the State, projected in characters belonging to the dominant layers of the society, it has led big changes in the mentality, which has been reflected in economic, urban and social Development. The interest to study the Development of the public works during this military government is due to some modernizing policies were traced in accordance with North American and European Development, introducing the country in the modernity by the middle of the XX century. The above-mentioned was due to that the General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla belonged to the “generation of the new” that was characterized by its mental opening to all that meant modernization for the country. A los largo de la historia, el poder del Estado proyectado en personajes pertenecientes a las élites dominantes de la sociedad, ha liderado los grandes cambios en la mentalidad, los cuales se han visto reflejados en el desarrollo económico, urbano y social. El resultado de esta investigación es una interpretación histórica de la arquitectura desde una perspectiva política, la cual marcó a través de la monumentalidad y los símbolos, un espacio en un contexto geográfico determinado, durante el gobierno del General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla. El interés por estudiar el desarrollo de las obras públicas durante este gobierno militar, se debe a que se trazaron una serie de políticas modernizadoras, acordes con el desarrollo norteamericano y europeo, introduciendo al país a mediados del siglo XX en la modernidad constructiva. Lo anterior se debió a que el General e ingeniero civil Rojas Pinilla perteneció a la Generación de los Nuevos, que se caracterizó por su apertura mental ante todo lo que significara modernización para Colombia.
