Description
Summary:Sustainability in universities faces the challenge of providing knowledge that allows institutional development based on its substantive functions. Hence, the study sought to develop a concept of sustainable university campus by identifying variables and dynamics proper to the university. For this purpose, a descriptive methodology was proposed with two phases. The first phase theoretically explores the term "sustainable development" in history in order to understand the concept of sustainable university campus. The second phase of qualitative type, investigates and acknowledges the reality of the Universidad Católica de Manizales (UCM) regarding the exercise of sustainability on campus. Distinctive features were identified in the fields of sustainable development, expanding their range to the academic and physical-spatial areas of internal and external learning environments, finding their application on university campuses. Finally, it was possible to evidence strategies anc actions implemented at the UCM, aimed at integrating concepts of sustainable campus.
