The same as many other Latin American cities that experienced their biggest development in the last part of the XX century, San José has reflected in his urban landscape, the lack of an aspect visual attractiveness, of which the community doesn’t feel identified. This problem is analyzed being remitted to the aesthetic answer, the cotidianity, the concentration of activities, the configuration of the public space and its influence in the facades of the buildings like borders; these points of analysis arise action rules, to sensitize the professionals implied in the decisions that affect the urban development of the Latin American cities. Finally this process is materialized and it takes since as preponderant main character to the users as important elements inside the urban landscape, it is necessary to analyze its contribution in the interventions from the public space to the urban life. Este texto analiza específicamente la situación actual de la ciudad de San José de Costa Rica, en cuanto a su espacio público. Al igual que muchas otras ciudades latinoamericanas, que experimentaron su mayor desarrollo en la última parte del siglo XX, San José ha reflejado en su paisaje urbano, la carencia de un aspecto visual atractivo, del cual la comunidad no se siente identificada. Se analiza esta problemática remitiéndose a la respuesta estética, la cotidianidad, la concentración de actividades, la configuración del espacio público y su influencia en las fachadas de los edificios como bordes; estos puntos de análisis surgen como pautas de acción, para sensibilizar a los profesionales implicados en las decisiones que afectan el desarrollo urbano de las ciudades latinoamericanas. Finalmente este proceso se materializa y toma como protagonista preponderante a los usuarios ya que como elementos importantes dentro del paisaje urbano, es necesario analizar su contribución en las intervenciones del espacio público a la vida urbana.
