With the purpose of defining more efficient tools so as to be included in territorial planning that contribute to minimize risk, this article shows cases of the current error in the conceptual confusion between hazard maps and risk maps in territorial planning in our country, it clarifies their differences and defines the minimum components that must be included. Furthermore, it concludes with the importance of incorporating the risk management in territorial planning using risk maps. El resurgimiento de las amenazas causadas por los diferentes fenómenos naturales y la creciente vulnerabilidad de los habitantes urbanos, deja al descubierto la necesidad urgente de avanzar en los procesos de gestión de riesgos. Con el propósito de definir herramientas más eficientes para incluir en la planificación territorial que contribuyan a minimizar el riesgo, este artículo muestra casos de confusión conceptual entre mapas de amenazas y mapas de riesgos en la planificación territorial en nuestro país, aclara sus diferencias y define los componentes mínimos que deben ser incluidos. Finalmente, se concluye explicando la necesidad de incorporar la gestión de riesgos en la planificación territorial utilizando mapas de riesgo.
