Construção. Projeto. Desperdício. Redução. Architects. Construction. Design. Waste. Reduction. This study aims to investigate in which stage the Brazilian architects are in relation to the problem of the waste generation from construction and demolition. This kind of waste in many cities can be more than 50% of the mass of municipal waste, and it can degrade the quality of urban life, as well as straining municipal cleaning services when they are not well managed. In search of better prospects for the problem, a questionnaire was made based on strategic plans for waste minimization, then an analysis was made from the responses, giving rise to an exploratory study in order to investigate the knowledge and actions that architects have in relation to minimizing waste generation as well as during the construction management and in design practice. The questionnaire was sent to 100 Brazilian architects, operating in the architectural design market. The architects have a vital role in reducing waste at all stages of construction, and their decisions as professionals require a greater focus on practices that consider the generation of waste since the conception process of any edifice. For now, the results show that there is much more to be done in relation to studies and practices in this matter.
