A large portion of the population that lives in urban centers has already suffered or is suffering from problems caused by urban noise, especially due to, among other factors, the proximity to roads of intense traffic of vehicles. Studies of several areas of knowledge are exposing possible harms caused to people as a consequence of a long exposure to high noise levels. Regarding the external environment, few measures were taken. Studies about this reveal conflicts between the urban guidelines for the urban development, land use and occupation and the acoustic comfort. The main objective of this work is to study the interactions between urban noise (especially regarding traffic noise) and urban space configuration, using as experimental field an area of Marco neighborhood of Belém-PA, near Almirante Barroso Avenue. For this, a methodology was created based on standards and theories that approach this theme and makes it possible to obtain built mass characteristic indexes (roughness, porosity, concentration and porosity). The comparison of these indexes with sound levels obtained through “in loco” collected data (using a sound pressure level meter), allows the identification of the urban form physical characteristics that influence external sound environment and that can serve as subsidies to the urban planning and design, preventing the formation of extremely unhealthy sound areas. |

Grande parcela da população que habita os centros urbanos já sofreu ou vem sofrendo por problemas decorrentes do ruído urbano, devido, dentre outros fatores, especialmente à proximidade de vias de tráfego intenso de veículos. Estudos em diversas áreas de conhecimento vêm apresentando os possíveis malefícios causados aos indivíduos em consequência do grande tempo em que ficam submetidos aos elevados níveis de ruído. Em se tratando dos ambientes externos às edificações poucas medidas têm sido tomadas. Os estudos a esse respeito revelam conflitos entre as diretrizes urbanísticas para o planejamento, uso e ocupação do solo e o conforto acústico. O objetivo principal deste trabalho é estudar as interações entre ruído urbano (em especial, o ruído de tráfego) e a configuração espacial urbana, utilizando uma região do bairro do Marco, em Belém-PA, às proximidades da Avenida Almirante Barroso, como campo experimental. Para tanto, foi criada uma metodologia baseada em teorias e em normas que abordam esse tema e que possibilitam a obtenção de índices característicos (rugosidade, porosidade e centralização) da massa edificada. A comparação destes índices com os níveis sonoros obtidos a partir dos valores coletados in loco (com o auxílio de um aparelho medidor de nível de pressão sonora), favorece a identificação das características físicas da forma urbana que influenciam no ambiente sonoro exterior e podem servir como subsídios ao planejamento e desenho das cidades, impedindo a formação de futuras áreas de extrema insalubridade sonora.
