Résumé:In Brazil, the offer of standardized projects with minimum dimensions for social interest housings demands greater attention and indicates the need to develop more efficient projects considering the changes that occur in customs and family profiles. The participation of users in the project process can contribute to the quality of the built setting by allowing the understanding of the needs of these users, in a process based on the improvement of communication between layman and professionals. In this context, the objective of this work was to perform a simulation with the use of an adjustable physical three-dimensional model as a way to investigate the priorities and desires of the users of social housing. The model allows quick adjustments and changes in the positions of walls and openings, providing a clear reading of different design options. Besides the simulation, the research method also includes a questionnaire and the declared preference technique with digital models. It was possible to observe that these tools helped to collect the information, allowing the interviewees to express their priorities and the motivations of their choices. The simulation with the adjustable physical model demonstrated the effectiveness of the project`s communication to layman, brings the decision-makers closer to the housing project and helps future residents to make more conscious choices.
