Opis
Streszczenie:The study investigates the architectural production in Belém of the 1940s. It was the emergence of the first modernist constructions whereby verticalization of 15 de Agosto Avenue and the rising of the neocolonial language, inspired in the concept of national identity, both of these languages living along with the eclectic edifications. In order to notice the transatlantic cultural exchanges expressed in architecture, this analysis was based on the Portuguese architect’s production, David Ferreira de Oliveira Lopes (1911-1987), a remarkable professional. He worked in Belém in the given decade. Models were adopted so that these architectures could be versed under the perspective of the commissioning clientele and the influences between Portugal and Brazil. This perspective guided the architecture not only as of space’s design, nor as to the layout of living or being, but as one of the Fine Arts. For this purpose, prizes were awarded to the best architecture projects in the town, in the so-called Salões Oficiais de Belas Artes do Estado do Pará, and David Lopes himself was honoured with several of these prizes. Studying those architect’s projects allow us to understand the process by which traditionalism joined the aspiration of modernization of the Amazon metropole.
