Yhteenveto: | World energy consumption continues to grow and has been critical for cooling systems in hot climate countries. The thermal performance of the building envelope has a considerable influence on indoor environmental conditions and user comfort. This article aims to identify, select, evaluate and synthesize information on PCMs (phase change materials) in buildings in hot climate countries as a strategy for good thermal performance through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The types of materials, their selection criteria and forms of incorporation and application are emphasized, as well as gaps and research trends. The theme's choice is due to the observance of an international research trend focused on using PCM in buildings through a prior analysis of articles. The articles outlined by the SLR demonstrated the great potential that PCMs have in reducing buildings' energy consumption in hot climate countries. According to the discussions, it is possible to reinforce that the PCM's climate parameters and thermophysical properties are essential in design choices. Still, equal emphasis should be placed on passive strategies that can work together, in addition to the availability of material and financial resources and the objectives of interest. It reinforces the principle that each project is unique but can guide other analysis by initial references. |
