Omschrijving
Samenvatting:In the present article, we conduct a historical-critical review of the site Zoological Garden of the City of Buenos Aires through the observation of its institutional program. We start from considering that the Buenos Aires Zoo was formed from its beginnings by the conjunction of five programmatic dimensions: aesthetics, entertainment, educational-didactic, scientific and productive. Throughout its history, these dimensions intertwined, interposed, prevailed over each other; but never disappeared. We understand that this multidimensional character places it as a significant and relevant object of study to broaden the view on the urban history of Buenos Aires. The work focuses on the stages of creation, consolidation and popularization of this urban-architectural space, which comprises the management periods of its first four directors.
