Based on the bibliographic and document review, is reconstructed, organized and established as the modernization process had an impact on how to deploy this kind of buildings in the urban fabrics of Venezuelan cities and how to project them was a mechanism of representation of the power that the State and the military boasted. The results are developed in this work from the consideration of “dwell”, the recognition of the language of the medieval and renaissance Revivals in these buildings and the way it was manifested in the barracks of three of the most important capitals of the country: Maracay, Barquisimeto and San Cristóbal. Finally, in the barracks not only the activities of training and discipline of the military sector were envisaged, but they were instruments of protection and exercise of power accompanied by the political, social, commercial economic reactivation and peeped the Venezuelan State. Esta investigación pretende aproximarse a la relación entre el Estado, la organización militar y la arquitectura con el objetivo de construir una historia de la arquitectura que tenga como hilo conductor la construcción de los cuarteles en las tres primeras décadas del siglo XX en Venezuela. A partir de la revisión bibliográfica y documental se reconstruye, organiza y establece cómo el proceso de modernización incidió en la forma de emplazar este tipo de edificios en los tejidos urbanos de las ciudades venezolanas y cómo proyectarlos fue un mecanismo de representación del poder que el Estado y el sector militar ostentó. Los resultados se desarrollan en este trabajo desde la consideración del “habitar”, el reconocimiento del leguaje de los Revivals medieval y renacentista en estos edificios y la forma como se manifestó en los cuarteles de tres de las capitales más importantes del país: Maracay, Barquisimeto y San Cristóbal. Finalmente, en los cuarteles no sólo se previeron las actividades de entrenamiento y disciplina del sector militar, sino que fueron instrumentos de protección y ejercicio del poder acompasado con la reactivación económica, política, social y comercial que el Estado venezolano atisbó.
