Summary:When tackling the modern urbanization process associated to the constitution of the disciplinary field of Urbanism, housing constitutes a key piece, since it promotes projects from the perspective of the hygienist discourse and its regulations.This whole complex covers housing problems that cannot be separated from inhabiting issues, this implies taking into account technological, architectural, social, cultural and economic matters.To analyze housing as a social device, and to make its own transformations and dynamics more visible, allow us to reconstruct the urban-cultural history of the city, always immerse in wider contexts that make the developments more intelligible.The primary objective of this study is to reveal the influence of hygienism in urban transformations that occur in the first stage of modernization in Cordoba. This work highlights the contribution of a group of professionals, politicians and legislators in the construction of urban planning through the interventions, projects and ordinances that have in common the problem of workers’ housing.
