要約:Since Vitruvio, the history of architecture alternated literary description and graphic representation. This balance present in Renaissance treaties, changed in the XIX century, when theory was rendered to professional practice in the Ecole des Beaux Arts. A division occurred between theoretic studies and graphic architectonic analysis carried out by Augusto Choisy and Banister Fletcher. In the XX century architecture books and the use of photography strengthened descriptive images. During the second half of the century the presence of ideology and philosophy radicalized written text, as it happens with Manfredo Tafuri. Nevertheless, Bruno Zevi was the highest exponent in the search of a balance between literary interpretation and graphic reading. With the appearance of the digital graphic, words were able to be removed in the interpretative reading of architecture.
