Özet:The touristic rise of the Uruguayan eastern coastline began in the 1930’s; prior to that, the focus was placed in Montevideo as a holiday city by the sea. This expansion was contextualized in the implementation of a series of public policies which tended to strengthen the summer tourism as a way of economic diversification, as well as an expansion of the tourist industry all over the territory. The town of Solís (Province of Maldonado), located 85 km away from Montevideo, came into existence as an ambitious tourist and forestry enterprise ran by a group which operated as a public limited company. All along the twentieth century, Solís has accompanied the social and cultural changes resulting from the growth of tourism in the Uruguayan coastline. The aim of this text is to make an approach to the characteristics of that associative founding business and also of the public policies that provided a framework to this practice. Then, I will try to show the transformations of the several ways of doing tourism, shifting from a pre fordist one, elitist and with a luxury resort in the hills towards another fordist, coastal and marked by the different seasons. ark:/s22508112/ihal3hroc
