This considers the differentiation phenomenon as the result of a dynamic process during which a set of internal and extemal, cultural and symbolic, political and economical factors were reciprocally nourished until they constituted defined anddiverse identities. Among all those elements, the analysis stops at two specific aspects: the role fulfilled by the Provincial State and some of the elements that contributed to the formation of the imaginary North and South of the province. Estas notas proponen un acercamiento al inicio del fenómeno de diferenciación producido en la provincia de Santa Fe a mediados del S. XIX y que resultó en la conformación de dos regiones diferentes -Norte y Sur- que tuvieron a las ciudades de Santa Fe y Rosario como cabeceras. Esto, considerando al fenómeno dediferenciación como el resultado de un proceso dinámico durante el cual un conjunto de factores internos y externos, culturales y simbólicos, políticos y económicos se realimentaron mutuamente hasta conformar identidades definidas y diversas. Entre todos esos elementos, el análisis se detiene en dos aspectos puntuales: el rol cumplido por el Estado Provincial y algunos de los elementos que contribuyeron a la formación de los imaginarios del Norte y del Sur de la provincia.
