The present article addresses the evolution that this architecture had in different settings, the grammar of a commercial architecture that prioritized on its exterior configuration the use of lighting. Our analysis enquires about the importance acquired by a technical aspect that during two decades defined and guided the adopted tendencies by owners, designers and builders of the complexes as a distinctive trait of an architectural typology developed in the first half of the twentieth century. La arquitectura exterior de los edificios diseñados para albergar espectáculos cinematográficos adquirió, durante las dos décadas que van de 1920 a 1940, características estéticas y formales que hicieron de ella un referente inconfundible e imprescindible en el decorado del paisaje nocturno de las ciudades. El presente artículo aborda la evolución que tuvo en diferentes escenarios, la gramática de una arquitectura comercial que priorizó en su configuración exterior el uso de la iluminación. Nuestro análisis indaga en la importancia adquirida por un aspecto técnico que durante poco más de dos décadas definió y direccionó las tendencias adoptadas por los propietarios, los diseñadores y los constructores de los edificioscaracterísticos de una tipología arquitectónica que se desarrolló durante la primera mitad del siglo xx.
