The majority of them became factory workers, construction workers and merchants, making Barrio de San Luisito an important reference point in Monterrey. El proceso de industrialización en Monterrey, Nuevo León, a finales del siglo XIX, provocó una expansión urbana y demográfica sin precedentes en la entidad. Muchos de los migrantes que llegaron a la ciudad eran originarios de San Luis Potosí, y se establecieron al sur del Río Santa Catarina. La mayoría de ellos se convirtieron en trabajadores de las fábricas, de la construcción y comerciantes. Convirtieron al barrio de San Luisito, en un todavía importante punto de referencia para Monterrey.
