To approach the importance of drawing toarchitectonic education and practice, this article examines some of the cognitivemechanisms associated with the act of drawing, using examples of technical drawingsto place special emphasis on what and how certain spatial skills are developed. After considering the idea of drawing as a way of learning and establishing spatialrelationships, it argues that, in architecture, the imagination does not function as aclear visualization, but as a set of multimodal space-time patterns.
