The analysis focuses on describing the theoretical foundations that define the reality of a specific industrial reality, using the study case of Valdivia.From a perspective that emphasizes the capacities of the cities of intermediate scale as resilient urban environments that support the changes derived from deindustrializing processes, a contemporary recovery tool is contextualized. In the first place, this article presents a framework of global perspective where the industrial and geographical antecedents are pointed out, in order to later define the essential aspects and arguments regarding memory, territory and society. Finally, the challenges and opportunities derived from the contextual approach of the proposed working instrument are explored. El presente escrito explora y discute instrumentos y metodologías asociadas con la recuperación de entornos industriales desde la perspectiva de su alcance territorial y urbano. El análisis se enfoca en describir los fundamentos teóricos que definen una realidad industrial concreta, utilizando para ello a la ciudad de Valdivia como caso de estudio.Desde una mirada que pone énfasis en las capacidades de las ciudades de escala intermedia como entornos urbanos resilientes que soportan notablemente los cambios derivados de procesos desindustrializadores, se contextualiza una herramienta de recuperación contemporánea. En primer lugar, se comienza con un marco de perspectiva global donde se puntualizan los antecedentes industriales y geográficos para, posteriormente, definir los aspectos y argumentos esenciales en cuestión de memoria, territorio y sociedad. Por último, se reconocen los desafíos y oportunidades derivados de la aproximación contextual del instrumento de trabajo planteado.
