In this way, those artists are challenge to present their creative output and their reflexive writings on the latest altogether as a required accomplishment for achieving the above mentioned contribution as it is regarded as a relevant issue of university mission. Este artículo presenta la reflexión de un docente de pregrado en música en torno de la legitimidad de los productos del quehacer artístico de los docentes como producción académica. La exposición se organiza en relación con cuatro puntos de observación: 1. Producción estética –misión de la universidad 2. Dimensiones en que incide la experiencia del arte 3. Los discursos en torno de lo que es arte 4. Relaciones de conocimiento en y a cerca de la experiencia del arte. En las conclusiones se manifiesta la necesidad de cooperar con las instituciones de educación básica para incrementar calidad y cobertura de la educación para las artes y los Ministerios de Cultura y Educación para establecer el peso que ha de concederse a “la obra” en las ponderaciones de la productividad académica.
