The following article is a meditation on how «the poetics of place» has only worked as an ideological construction aimed to justify our modern architecture, and how our contemporary architecture, paradoxically, in the process of finding an identity to frame its new proposalswithin a coherent theoretical structure, has not found a different approach to conceptualize its formal production and has ended up using, as its antecessors did, the external reference as its most common strategy. La crítica arquitectónica colombiana empieza y termina con un dilema: el de nuestra identidad. Sin embargo —y pese a los esfuerzos— es un problema sin solución, pues la identidad ha demostrado ser un concepto inabarcable desde la disciplina. El siguiente es un artículo de reflexión acerca de cómo el discurso de «la poética del lugar» sirvió solamente como construcción ideológica para justificar nuestra arquitectura moderna, y cómo la arquitectura contemporánea, paradójicamente, en el proceso de encontrar una identidad que permitiera enmarcar las nuevas propuestas dentro de una estructura teórica coherente, no ha encontrado una, manera diferente de conceptualizar su producción formal y terminó usando, igual que sus antecesores, la referencia externa como su estrategia más común.
