As a conclusion, the paper suggests some recommendations for birds making a comeback in human settlements and, along with them, the quality of the whole environment in urban areas. Artículo que presenta un panorama global de la distribución de las aves en el mundo, los países con mayor número de especies amenazadas y las principales causas de amenaza, todas ellas relacionadas estrechamente con las ciudades. La importancia de las aves urbanas se analiza en la ciudad de Bogotá, su valor como indicadores ambientales, su distribución, algunos de los árboles urbanos que las alimentan, y los lugares en los que se pueden observar. Como conclusión se formulan algunas recomendaciones para que las aves retornen a las ciudades y municipios, y con ellas, la calidad del medio ambiente a las áreas urbanas.
