It addresses three main topics: a) the crisis of urban planning and the search for new horizons, b) constructing a social cooperating-bonding project, and c) Autlan de la Grana Urban Development Plan processes and implementation, which particularly focused on formulating spatial planning policies and guidelines to steer the city’s urban furtherance towards the identification and definition of strategic projects and measures guaranteeing sustainable growth for the benefit of its inhabitants, and lastly, on the way to propelling a culture of social participation among all different members of society and the government. El artículo presenta la experiencia metodológica realizada con el Ayuntamiento de Autlán de Navarro, cuyo planteamiento global osciló desde la construcción de un proyecto de vinculación y compromiso social, con los procesos e instrumentación del Plan de Desarrollo Urbano de Autlán de la Grana, Jalisco; hasta la integración de políticas y criterios de ordenamiento urbano orientados a la sustentabilidad. Se abordan tres temáticas principales: a) la crisis del planeamiento urbano y los nuevos horizontes de búsqueda, b) la construcción de un proyecto de vinculación y compromiso social, y c) los procesos y la instrumentación del Plan de Desarrollo Urbano de Autlán de la Grana; el cual se centró en la formulación de políticas y directrices de ordenamiento que orientarán el desarrollo urbano de la ciudad, en la identificación y determinación de proyectos estratégicos y acciones que garanticen el desarrollo sustentable en beneficio de los habitantes, y por último, en impulsar una cultura participativa entre los diferentes sectores de la sociedad y el gobierno.
