The latter is stronger in the regions far from metropolitan centers, where local economies and cultural imprints make distinctions in the expression, the magnitude of the problem, its impacts and the relationship between these settlements and the city of spontaneous generation planned from the standard logical tools and formal institutions. Los campamentos urbanos han sido tratados extensamente como parte de las anomalías persistentes de la ciudad post industrial, ya que aparecen como externalidades negativas, cobrando dimensiones sistémicas complejas de abordar. El caso Chileno es particular debido a su extensa geografía Norte–Sur, en que los campamentos presentan diferenciaciones contextuales muy marcadas en lo físico, social, económico y cultural. Esto último se acentúa en las regiones alejadas de los centros metropolitanos, en donde las economías locales y las improntas culturales marcan diferenciaciones en la expresión, en la magnitud del problema, sus impactos y la relación que existe entre estos asentamientos de generación espontánea y la ciudad planificada desde los instrumentos y lógicas estándar de las instituciones formales.
