It is bounded on the north by the river Quiapo that separates it from Arauco, on the east by Curanilahue and Los Alamos, on the south by Tirua and on the west by the Pacific Ocean.This city represents a very important urban settlement for being a rather provincial centre of a vast coastal area of indigenous Mapuche communities; an etnic group that fights to become part of the integrated regional development while maintaining their traditions and values. Lebu, es ciudad capital de la Provincia de Arauco, VIII Región del Bío Bío y se localiza a 145 Kms. de la Ciudad de Concepción, capital regional. Tiene una superficie comunal de 562,9 Kms2, lo que representa al 1.52% de la Superficie Regional y un 0.07% de la Superficie Nacional. Su territorio se encuentra ubicado entre los paralelos 37º 36º de latitud Sur y 73º 40º de longitud Oeste. Limita al norte con la Comuna de Arauco separada por el Río Quiapo, al este con las comunas de Curanilahue y Los Álamos, al sur con la comuna de Tirúa y al oeste con el Océano Pacífico.Esta ciudad, se constituye como un enclave urbano de gran importancia por ser centro del carácter provincial de un vasto sector costero de asentamientos mapuches, etnia que hoy intenta incorporarse con fuerza al desarrollo integrado regional, conservando sus costumbres, tradiciones y valores.
