In the 1960s, generalised criticism of the “functionalisation”, “rationalisation” and “mechanisation” of the modern city drew a veil of rejection for future generations.The “Seminario del Gran Santiago” was held in Chile in 1957, calling together diverse specialists to address the urban problems arising in the capital city from a broader perspective. One of the participants was the architect Emilio Duhart Harosteguy, who undertook a detailled analysis and drew up urban proposals for Santiago. One can detect a priori in his exhibition a direct influence from the principles of modern architecture, but also a certain intellectual autonomy when proposing urban models for public space. La separación de funciones pregonada por la Carta de Atenas de los CIAM se transformó en la síntesis del proyecto urbano moderno y también en la promotora de su decadencia. La crítica generalizada en la década de los años 60 del siglo pasado hacia el “funcionalismo”, “racionalismo” y “mecanicismo” de la ciudad moderna tendió un velo de rechazo de parte de las futuras generaciones. En el año 1957 se realiza en Chile el “Seminario del Gran Santiago”, donde se convoca a diversos especialistas para abordar ampliamente los problemas urbanos que se estaban suscitando en la capital. Entre los expositores se encuentra el arquitecto Emilio Duhart Harosteguy, quien realiza un detallado análisis y propuestas urbanas para Santiago. Se puede detectar a priori una directa influencia de los principios de la arquitectura moderna en su exposición, pero también una cierta autonomía intelectual al momento de proponer estructuras urbanas sobre el espacio público.
