Description
Summary:Until recently, urban restructuring based on gentrification was common in the Netherlands. This kind of intervention is based on the demolition of part of the existing social housing and the construction of new housing. This has consequences in the social composition of the neighbourhood since the number of people with less purchasing power decreases, the number of people of “non-Western” origin increases at a slower rate and, in turn, the local middle class population increases. This article deals with the case of Europarei, its problems and the way it is being faced. It is estimated that the restructure will be completed by 2020.
