| Resumo: | At the beginning of this century, Chile underwent a change regarding the protection of its heritage; citizens became aware of the concept of “heritage”, of their duty as a society to protect this heritage, and the requirement of the State to properly invest resources intended for this protection. From an architectural point of view, the question arises: How do we address the architectural intervention in a pre-existent form in a responsible, ethical, and appropriate manner? Intervention should be an established operation, defined by historic, architectural and technical support; and doing it consciously implies an understanding of the relevance of the intervention. The development of a diagnosis and the definition of the corresponding criteria for intervention will allow the development of a consistent and efficient project impacting upon the city with coherent architecture. |
