Resumo:The work of architect Fernando Castillo Velasco and its legacy goes far beyond disciplinary boundaries and the liberal professional field, being strongly linked to public policy and social action of his. This text is part of the tribute the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Chile made in the month of June 2014 to commemorate a year of his death. Castillo was one of the few Chilean architects capable of steadily arousing interest on his work (largely conducted within the studio of architects Valdés, Castillo and Huidobro and Bresciani), in addition to making it transcend beyond the realm of architecture. He also ventured in politics, urban planning and public administration, occupying senior positions as provost of the Catholic University, as mayor of the municipality of La Reina and Intendant of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago
