In the realm of housing, the philosophy behind the notion of flexibility is rooted, precisely, on the will to incorporate the variable of time to achieve a suitable adaptation of the space to the changing needs of the inhabitants. Its own condition also denotes an evolutionary nature, closely linked to the transformation of the society (cultural, economical, social, etc.). The main goal of the article, given this nature, is to classify the most significant strategies around the concept of flexibility during last century, in order to broaden its meaning and to encourage original interpretations. We will observe that the dialectic between the determined and the indeterminate shows a tension between the ideals and the real occupation of space, while the initial search for a generic space as ideal of housing is replaced by the reconsideration of its individuality. La conciencia de una sociedad en constante transformación y aceleración ha sido un factor característico desde la modernidad. En la vivienda, la filosofía de la flexibilidad se asienta, precisamente, en la voluntad por incorporar la variable del tiempo para una eficaz adaptación del espacio a las necesidades cambiantes de los habitantes. Su propia condición también denota una naturaleza evolutiva al estar ligada a las transformaciones de la sociedad (culturales, económicas, etc.). El principal objetivo del artículo, dada esta naturaleza, es clasificar las más significativas estrategias proyectuales en torno al concepto de flexibilidad durante el último siglo, con el fin de ampliar su significado y fomentar novedosas interpretaciones. Observaremos que la dialéctica entre lo determinado y lo indeterminado aparece como una tensión entre los ideales y la ocupación real del espacio, así la inicial búsqueda de un espacio genérico como ideal de vivienda precede a la reconsideración de su individualidad.
