This housing problems mean, on the one hand, that there are people who still don't have a house and on the other that there are people whose houses do not meet minimum habitability standards. The paper also aims at stablishing the guidelines for a Self-built Housing Program, sponsored by the "La Florida" Municipality as well as the basic elements which the functioning of such project should take into account. El presente trabajo se propone contribuir a la discusión y reflexión sobre formas innovativas que permitan dar respuesta eficaz y eficiente al grave problema habitacional que afecta principalmente a los sectores más pobres de Chile. Problema habitacional que se expresa, por una parte, en una gran cantidad de personas que aún no disponen de vivienda y por otra, que si bien disponen de una, no cumplen con los mínimos requisitos de habitabilidad. Además, se propone establecer los principios orientadores que debería sustentar un Programa de Autoproducción de Viviendas gestionado por la Municipalidad de La Florida y los elementos básicos que debería considerar el funcionamiento operativo de dicha propuesta.
