Such a viewpoint is usually held in political speeches but repeatedly avoided by the ones responsible for decision making in the topic of gender. This lack of action derives not so much from the authorities but rather from the whole society which has been unable to overcome such an omission in spite of the possibilities opened by democracy and which should have so far drawn a positive reaction, according to the new concepts structuring the modern society, in this sense then, this paper contributes with ideas to guide solution matching the general expectation present in all areas of society. El artículo se refiere al sistema institucional de acción en vivienda social en Chile, a través de un análisis crítico, sesgado por el tema "género", como uno de los rasgos tradicionalmente sustentados por el discurso político, no obstante soslayado reiterativamente por los responsables de la toma de decisiones en el ámbito del tema de género. Se desprende implícitamente que el vacío de esta acción deriva, no tanto de una voluntad sectorial de la autoridad, sino más bien atañe a la sociedad toda, que en ningún momento ha sido capaz de superar esta ancestral omisión, pese a que los ámbitos abiertos por la democracia en la actualidad va deberían haber dado una respuesta positiva de acuerdo a los nuevos conceptos que estructuran la sociedad moderna. Es en este sentido que el artículo concluye aportando ideas que orienten una salida consecuente con las expectativas generalizadas que en estos momentos se arraigan en todos los ámbitos de la sociedad.
