It is here thus intended to call the attention to a topic most often neglected in political decisions regarding housing. En este artículo se aborda la temática del déficit habitacional focalizando la atención en una de sus dimensiones -el hacinamiento-. Se vincula este tema con las transformaciones de las políticas habitacionales y el crecimiento y la aparición de nuevas formas de pobreza. Se hace especial referencia al caso de la provincia de Mendoza por las particulares características que en ella ofrecen la magnitud y evolución de este fenómeno. Se pretende de este modo llamar la atención sobre un tema frecuentemente relegado en las decisiones políticas en materia habitacional.
