In this context the work carried out by the Corporation de la Vivienda CORVI, (Housing Corporation of CORVI) is noticeable. Such work was carried out in the 1953-1973 period, associated to a nationalist project with the state acting as benefactor. Its work expresses ways of thinking and acting which form school of architectonic design having also a relationship to the legitimization of a statute for housing dignity. The architectonic work of this school combine desired social elements, elements of rational politics and techno-instrumental elements which must be acknowledged and valued in order to support future actions to improve the urban image. From the analysis work, it is possible to construct critical referents as regards the residential doctrines and actual design practices for social housing. Al observar la imagen urbana de las ciudades chilenas se advierte la impronta de la producción habitacional del Estado. En este contexto es reconocible la labor desarrollada por la Corporación de la Vivienda. CORVI en un período de modernización de la sociedad chilena, asociado a un proyecto nacionalista de Estado Benefactor (1953-1973). Su obra expresa formas de pensamiento y acción constituyentes de una escuela de diseño arquitectónico cuyo desarrollo tiene un correlato en la legitimación de un estatuto de la dignidad habitacional. En la obra arquitectónica de esta escuela se equilibran tanto elementos de deseabilidad social como de racionalidad política y tecno-instrumentales que deben reconocerse y ser puestos en valor para apoyar acciones futuras de mejoramiento de la imagen urbana. A partir del examen de esta obra es posible constituir también referentes críticos respecto de las doctrinas residenciales y prácticas actuales de diseño de la vivienda social.
