This social conscience has refl ected in trends that have foster programs, projects and actions in different productive segments in many countries. Civil construction, historically out of these issues, has recently slightly tilted towards this new trend. This paper wants to map some of these social responsability actions done in civil construction in Brazil aiming to lift a new attitude, training to create a link between reality and precarious conditions housing in most of the population. The methodology applied was a national bibliographical research and technical visits in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The conclusions were that although the civil construction sector constitute a strong, uneven force and powerful industry; its social responsibility related to housing is nearly nonexistent and far from the population’s immediate demands. A população mundial tem vivenciado um acelerado processo de urbanização em quase todos os países, cuja intensifi cação tem provocado conseqüências desastrosas para os indivíduos, a exemplo da condição da moradia. Paralelamente, indivíduos e população têm despertado para uma maior consciência das questões sociais e ambientais. Esta consciência de responsabilidade social nasceu e tem se disseminado neste movimento, fomentando programas, projetos, e ações nos diversos segmentos produtivos, nos diversos países do mundo. A construção civil, historicamente alheia a essas questões, tem fracamente aderido a esta nova postura. Este trabalho buscou mapear algumas ações de responsabilidade social realizadas pela construção civil no Brasil, com o objetivo de levantar esta nova postura, e tentar estabelecer uma ligação entre esta realidade e a condição precária de moradia de grande parte da população. A metodologia usada foi compilação bibliográfi ca numa abrangência nacional e visitas técnicas baseada nestas informações em Salvador, Bahia, Brasil. As conclusões observadas demonstram que, embora a construção civil se confi gure como uma indústria de tamanho, força, e poder ímpares, a adesão a uma postura de responsabilidade social para com a questão da moradia é quase inexistente e distanciada das necessidades imediatas das populações.
