First it describes what Situational Prevention and CPTED methodology from its theoretical and urban guidelines. In a second phase it describes how it has been applied integral Violence and Crime Prevention strategies in different Latin American and Caribbean countries that includes spatial outlook, emphasizing diverse agencies and actors participation in their intervention and the defined participation spaces. Finally it goes into the problems depth and the opportunity represented by the school as a social institution, a neighborhood pillar and architectonic space to sow a Prevention Culture in the long term. El presente texto describe estrategias de Prevención de Violencia y Delito por medio del diseño ambiental destacables en Latinoamérica y el Caribe desde el año 2000. En un primer acápite se describe lo que es la Prevención Situacional y la metodología CPTED desde sus líneas teóricas y urbanas. En una segunda parte se describe cómo se han aplicado en diversos países de Latino y Centroamérica estrategias integrales de Prevención de Violencia y Delito que incorporan estas miradas espaciales poniendo énfasis en la participación de variadas agencias y actores en la intervención y en los espacios destinados para esta participación. Finalmente se profundiza en la problemática y oportunidad que representa la escuela como institución social, pilar de un barrio y espacio arquitectónico para sembrar una Cultura de la Prevención a largo plazo.
