In 2008, this building was designated by the Chilean Council of Culture as part of Historical Monuments. There is no doubt that the facades and the spatial configuration of this building are an expression of the social and architectural modernization that took place in the early twentieth century. Such characteristics reveal a debate on the presence of foreign influences and the development of a nationalistic sentiment in support of arts. La “Casa del Escritor” se ubica, para el desarrollo de sus actividades, en una vivienda construida en 1927, diseñada por el arquitecto Julio Machicao Fuentes; declarada Monumento Histórico el año 2008 mediante fondos del Consejo de la Cultura chilena. Sin duda el inmueble constituye, tanto por la concepción de las fachadas como por su configuración espacial, una expresión de la modernización social y arquitectónica de principios del siglo XX en Chile; y da cuenta de un debate entre la presencia de influencias foráneas y el desarrollo de un sentido nacionalista en las artes contribuyente a tal proceso.
