The evaluation indicates, for all the departments, predominance of constructions in category 2. The results have allowed the development of significant information which will be available for future studies of energy strategies and prospects. The conclusions of the spatial study show that it is possible to develop energy strategies, based on existing buildings, identifying constructions with FF values greater than 1.20 and departments that require an intervention priority. El trabajo estudia el Factor de Forma (FF), en el Área Metropolitana de Mendoza (AMM) y sus seis jurisdicciones político-administrativas (denominadas departamentos), como parte de la problemática del desarrollo ambiental y energéticamente sostenible del sector edilicio en ciudades de la región árida del centro-oeste de Argentina.Metodológicamente se calculó la superficie de envolvente y volumen para los edificios construidos en el área de estudio, en sistemas de información geográfica (SIG), que permitieron obtener resultados y analizar estadísticamente la variable FF (considerando para su cálculo una o dos superficies horizontales de pérdida), categorizada en función de una escala de valores en tres categorías. La evaluación indica, para todos los departamentos, predominancia de construcciones en la Categoría 2. Los resultados han permitido desarrollar información significativa disponible para estudios futuros de estrategias y prospectivas de carácter energético. Las conclusiones del estudio espacial evidencian que es posible elaborar estrategias energéticas, basadas en los edificios existentes, identificando construcciones con valores de FF superiores a 1.20 y departamentos que requieren una prioridad de intervención.
