Description
Summary:This article analyzes the patrimonialization of a sector to the west of the southern neighborhood of Barracas (Buenos Aires, Argentina), away from the most commercial and central areas, based on two geographically close cases: the Pasaje Lanín and the café and bodegón La Flor de Barracas. The purpose is to show how the actors involved in these two cases translate, through heterogeneous strategies, aspects of the neighborhood’s past and present into the heritage discourse, in which local authenticity and identity appear as central values. The change of image of the area through heritage is articulated with a broader urban re-qualification. Interviews, hemerographic material, websites and social networks of the actors involved and other relevant documents produced since 1998 are analyzed.
