In this display, and as Foucault would believe, the great utopias of the modern project have been contrasted by the heterotopias, those other spaces that put into discussion their own criteria of place. As a complement, and at the same time as a critical manner towards architecture, literature or cinema have investigated and exposed these anti-spaces, these unhabitables that impeached the order of things.

La historia de la modernidad es, en cierta manera, la historia de lo otro, del lugar que ocupa la alteridad, el conflicto, aquello no acordado. Frente a su propia tendencia a la construcción de un orden y de un conjunto de taxonomías que intentan una explicación del mundo, la misma modernidad se ha exacerbado en la pulsión de revolverse contra sus propios principios o contra la idea de un destino. En este despliegue, y tal como creyera Foucault, las grandes utopías del proyecto moderno se han visto contrastadas por las heterotopías, esos otros espacios que ponen en discusión a los propios criterios de lugar. Como complemento, y a la vez forma crítica de la arquitectura, la literatura o el cine han indagado y expuesto estos contra-espacios, estos inhabitables, que impugnan aquel orden de las cosas.
