However, on numerous opportunities its role goes beyond pure documentation and takes a leading role in the definition and dissemination of a certain architecture.This paper aims to present the significance of photography in the definition and consolidation of the image of Spanish modern architecture in the 1950s and 1960s. In a time when travel and contacts were relatively limited, photographs published in the Spanish media allowed the architects to show their progress inside and outside the borders. Surely, their authors were not aware of what they did, but, seen in perspective, it is clear that the selection and wider dissemination of a series of snapshots marked the development of the Spanish “new architecture”. |

La fotografía es una de las maneras más eficaces de representar los objetos arquitectónicos. Es una herramienta óptima de comunicación gráfica. Sin embargo, en numerosas ocasiones su función excede la mera documentación y adquiere un papel primordial en la definición y difusión de una determinada arquitectura.Este trabajo pretende presentar la importancia que tuvo la fotografía en la definición y consolidación de la imagen de la arquitectura moderna española en las décadas de 1950 y 1960. En un momento en que los contactos y viajes resultaban relativamente escasos todavía, las fotografías publicadas en los medios permitieron que los arquitectos españoles mostraran sus avances dentro y fuera de las fronteras del país. Seguramente, sus responsables no eran conscientes de lo que hacían, pero, visto con cierta perspectiva, queda claro que la selección y mayor difusión de una serie de instantáneas marcó el desarrollo de la “nueva arquitectura” española.
