Recruitments in Spain, their departures –from both Sevilla/Cadiz and Lisbon with stops in Rio de Janeiro– and the happenings that took place during the no less than three-month boat trips, were reason for writing long texts full of feelings of hope and wonder at the unknown. They provide a different type of source that allows us to have another look at the cities. In this opportunity we systematize and analyze those Jesuit texts which aimed to describe the urban settings they passed through.
