His abstract work, collages, watercolors or pieces with mixed or alternative techniques, have been published in books and specialized reviews and, nowadays, his paintings can be found in galleries and contemporary art museums. The same cannot be said about his work as an architect. Besides the spatial conception related to this discipline, as well as geometry, were permanently present in his painting, this article covers his facet as an architect creator of spaces and forms. His whole domain of the functionality and the structural logic necessaries for the optimal materialization of ideas were present in his work, mainly developed in his hometown, Mérida, Yucatán.

El nombre de Fernando García Ponce se liga invariablemente a la producción pictórica de un período del siglo XX mexicano, caracterizado por cambios sociales, nuevas maneras de ver el mundo, expresiones de búsqueda y gritos de otras verdades. Ha sido ampliamente difundido, reconocido e identificado dentro de la Generación de la Ruptura en la pintura mexicana. Sus obras abstractas, collages, acuarelas o composiciones con técnicas mixtas o alternativas han sido publicadas en libros y revistas especializadas y, en la actualidad, sus pinturas se pueden admirar en galerías y museos de arte contemporáneo. No así su trabajo como arquitecto. Si bien la concepción espacial propia de esta disciplina, así como la geometría, estuvieron permanentemente presentes en su pintura, este artículo aborda su faceta como arquitecto hacedor de espacios y de formas. Su dominio total de la funcionalidad y la lógica estructural necesarias para la materialización óptima de las ideas se hizo presente en su trabajo, desarrollado principalmente en su ciudad natal, Mérida, Yucatán.
