সংক্ষিপ্ত: | As a socio-political issue, abortion is often understood as a woman's right and public health issue. However, is rarely discussed in its architectural dimension. This article seeks to fill this gap through two complementary methodological paths. First, through a theoretical and historical argument, it demonstrates that legal abortion has a spatial dimension related to the architectural quality of physical and mental health spaces where the process takes place. Second, through the critical analysis of a case study - the Gestational Interruption Program envisaged by Law (PIGL) of the Mother’s care and Children Hospital in Brasília, capital of Brazil. The case proves the precariousness and improvisation of health spaces for legal abortion. Thus, the article confirms the hypothesis that architecture has an important social role to fulfill in order to provide dignity and security to women who decide to exercise their reproductive rights. |
