Considering this way as a foundation, therefore fundamental when regarding architectural education, and more specifically design teaching, the article attempts to establish a connection between Louis I. Kahn’s work and theory and practices contemplating thoughts on the design teaching in architecture nowadays. Therefore, this article seeks to understand the stance adopted by Kahn – especially through the perception of his own discourse – regarding his production of architecture, which implies understanding how he interprets reality, how he defines the process to deal with the project problem and the subsequent unfolding in the way he teaches architecture; considered here as an example as it characterizes a clearly defined and transmissible process in which the interpretation of architecture is built, as an authentic second nature created by history, associated to basic values of modern design, but still relevant: humanism, social project and will of formal and technological renewal.Keywords: Louis Kahn, architecture, theoretical conceptualization, design teaching. A existência histórica de uma tensão, de uma relação problematizada entre teoria e prática no campo da arquitetura – no limite, entre academia e ambiente profissional –, na qual discursos tendem a um distanciamento da realidade, enquanto que a prática, carente de fundamentos que lhe confiram legitimidade, incorre no risco de uma produção irrefletida, corrobora para o estabelecimento de uma situação pendular: teoria x prática, em vez da instauração de uma forma relacional: teoria e prática. Considerando essa forma como um princípio, portanto fundamental no que diz respeito ao ensino de arquitetura, e mais especificamente de projeto, o artigo procura estabelecer uma via de ligação entre o trabalho de Louis I. Kahn e teorias e práticas vinculadas à reflexão sobre o ensino de projeto em arquitetura nos dias de hoje. Para tanto, busca compreender a postura adotada por Kahn – sobretudo pela percepção do discurso do próprio arquiteto – em relação ao fazer arquitetura, o que implica em compreender de que modo este interpreta a realidade, como define para si próprio a maneira de tratar o problema do projeto e o consequente rebatimento na sua forma de ensinar arquitetura, considerada aqui exemplar na medida em que caracteriza processo claramente delimitado e transmissível no qual a interpretação da arquitetura construída, como autêntica segunda natureza que a história foi gerando, encontra-se associada a valores básicos do projeto moderno, porém, ainda relevantes: humanismo, projeto social, vontade de renovação formal e tecnológica.Palavras-chave: Louis Kahn, arquitetura, concepção teórica, ensino de projeto.
