Summary:This article presents a theoretical discussion of space, which is considered the nucleus of the architect’s professional activity. It introduces different theories that investigate how space, an entity of the “outside world,” is realized in the subjective experience, the “inside world.” Thus the text discusses issues related to perception, based on the idea that space and its perception are so deeply intertwined that it is not possible to understand them separately. Drawing from contributions fromphilosophy, psychology, and the social sciences, the article highlights the importance of the sensorium and movement in the interaction with space, always assuming the body as a culturally constructed entity.Key words: space, perception, sensorium.
