Drawing from contributions fromphilosophy, psychology, and the social sciences, the article highlights the importance of the sensorium and movement in the interaction with space, always assuming the body as a culturally constructed entity.Key words: space, perception, sensorium. Este artigo propõe uma discussão teórica sobre o espaço, considerado o núcleo da atividade profi ssional do arquiteto. São apresentadas diferentes abordagens que investigam as maneiras como o espaço, entidade do “mundo externo”, se realiza na experiência subjetiva, o “mundo interno”. Desta forma, o texto se dirige a questões relativas à percepção, pois se fundamenta na concepção de que o espaço em si e sua percepção estão de tal forma ligados que não é possível compreendê-los separadamente. Baseando-se em contribuições oriundas da fi losofi a, psicologia e ciências sociais, o texto destaca a importância do sensório e do movimento na interação com o espaço, sempre assumindo o corpo como entidade construída culturalmente.Palavras-chave: espaço, percepção, sensório.
