In this context, tactical interventions have been working to minimize this imbalance, even temporarily. This paper discusses the practice called tactical urbanism – an emerging approach aimed at the gradual recovery of public spaces through alternative actions to conventional planning – taking Park(ing) Day Rio de Janeiro as a reference case, an annual intervention where citizens, artists and activists work to temporarily transform street parking in a recreation area. The paper’s method is based on theoretical research on tactical urbanism and on some empirical actions within this approach (temporary interventions), which can be illustrated through the design and construction of five Park(ing) Day interventions in Rio de Janeiro. These concrete actions allow for experiencing the design process, the management and the event’s material construction in its true length, leading to the further observation of its results. Through these recent actions, we want to promote the debate on possibilities for a gradual recovery of public space by small actors, showing some developments of these tactics in the form of public policies, such as the current legislation for the installation and use of temporary sidewalk extensions or parklets in several Brazilian cities.Keywords: tactical urbanism, park(ing) day, public space. O desequilíbrio do espaço público entre pedestres e automóveis particulares é um tema desafiador para os projetos urbanos recentes, cuja agenda vem apostando na cidade na escala das pessoas. Nesse sentido, intervenções táticas recentemente têm trabalhado para minimizar esses desequilíbrios, ainda que temporariamente. Esse artigo discute algumas práticas do chamado urbanismo tático – abordagem emergente que visa à recuperação gradual dos espaços públicos através de ações alternativas ao planejamento convencional – tomando como caso referencial o Park(ing) Day Rio de Janeiro, intervenção anual onde cidadãos, artistas e ativistas trabalham para transformar temporariamente uma vaga de estacionamento de rua em área de lazer. O método utilizado envolve a pesquisa teórica sobre urbanismo tático e algumas ações empíricas (intervenções temporárias) dentro dessa abordagem, que consistiram no projeto e construção de cinco intervenções Park(ing) Day no Rio de Janeiro. Essas ações concretas permitiram vivenciar em verdadeira grandeza o processo de projeto, gestão e construção material do evento, levando à posterior observação dos resultados. Através dessas ações recentes, deseja-se discutir as possibilidades de recuperação gradual do espaço público a partir de pequenos atores, apresentando desdobramentos dessas táticas na forma de políticas públicas, como a atual legislação para instalação e uso de extensão temporária de calçada, ou parklet, em várias cidades brasileiras.Palavras-chave: urbanismo tático, park(ing) day, espaço público.
